Description: In response to Leigh hosting four games as part of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022, ‘We Are Willow’ were commissioned to create a new team of local women and girls and record their memories, hopes and ambitions for the women’s and girls’ game in the borough. The project, inspired by the South Lancashire Tramways (Wigan’s first women’s football team), has resulted in the development of film and memorabilia that will be available to watch/buy across the tournament, with proceeds going to support the local grass roots game. The shirt produced as part of the project was designed in partnership with fashion students at Wigan & Leigh college. It felt fitting that the pioneers of the women’s game in the borough, play those that have and will continue to carry the game into the future.
